FAMOUS LAST WORDS of #Startup Founders

This is our very own Startup Siete Palabras.

Read up. I’m still reeling from our Good Friday night convo on Clubhouse.

It started with a discussion on storytelling. Lightweight and digestible.

With them, I mentioned how one Disney animator shared his story about the effect of loved ones and spouses have on our journey as founders. It was memorable because of the storytelling elements he employed in it. This must be the Disney formula at work.

Among other things, we chatted about the facets of persuasion in crafting brand stories. What ended up notable for me was how there should be an alignment before you can convince someone. And that there’s no such thing as a NO, just bad persuasion.

We then chatted about the intricacies of the startup failures of Flow which was in the same space with Asana. The point was how the burden should be shared and why startups should fundraise and not just bootstrap.

Then the Siete Palabras started.. I will not go into details because the conversation was both intimate and brutal. But here are the seven last words in original Bisaya and paralleled with messages from founders.

Seven Last Words of Startup Founders

1. AMAHAN, PASAYLOA SILA KAY WALA SILA MAHIBALO SA ILANG GIBUHAT.’”

- I forgive my friends and family and others who think I am delusional or indolent or trying hard. They don’t know what they are doing.

2. SULTIHAN KO IKAW, KARONG ADLAWA ADTO KA SA PARAISO UBAN KANAKO.

- I tell you, we are headed for paradise. We are part of a bigger story. Journey with me. We will leave our children our legacy.

3. ANIA ANG IMONG INAHAN.

- Here is your son. Here is your mother. To our parents (and spouses) who only want what’s best for us and don’t want us to suffer this path. We understand why you are concerned for us and our career and life decisions.

4. DIOS KO, DIOS KO, NGANONG GIBIYA-AN MO AKO?

- Why did you leave me? Just when I needed you the most? I am trying to be better and to build a better world. Support me. The last thing I need is your betrayal.

5. GIUHAW AKO.

- I thirst. I thirst for your understanding, your support, your love. There may be times that I thirst for normalcy but I thirst for the bigger story of which I am a part. Help me.

6. NATAPOS NA!

- It is finished! I’ve done my job. Whether you consider me a success or a failure, I came out better and I came out stronger.

7. AMAHAN, ITUGYAN KO SA IMONG MGA KAMOT ANG AKONG ESPIRITU

- In your hands, I commend my spirit. To the Universe, the Multiverse, and the gods that may be. Take me. I am here to serve.
